Captain Shan
Captain Shan was not known for being a cold hearted, ruthless pirate; no, she was a captain her crew looked up to for her poise and virtue. She led in a way that no other captain could. Where most ships sailed with goals of looting and plundering, Captain Shan set her ship a sail to search the stars. They would venture farther out into the oceans than most would even consider, for the best views of the dark and open sky came farthest away from land.
Captain Shan crossed paths with Captain Tuck throughout their travels in the City of Fire, but more than 15 years had passed since they had seen one another. Stories of the Dread Captain’s disappearance reached Captain Shan’s ship, and her crew urged her to go after the flag. Like Tuck, Shan wasn’t seeking power from the flag, but knowing he was headed through The Dread Sea intrigued her. She would enter the Serpent’s Pass at the request of her crew, giving them an adventure to bring joy to their faces, and a tale to tell their families once they returned out with The Pirate’s Flag!
More to the story
Just like Captain Tuck was based on Tucker, the developer of CardLords games, Captain Shan was based on Shannon, Tucker’s fiancée, and the other key member of CardLords.
Unfortunately Shannon’s story came to an end in November of 2017 when she passed away unexpectedly. Many of our backers may have had the opportunity to play The Pirate’s Flag or our other games at conventions with Shannon, and she loved that. She saw our progress on The Pirate’s Flag from a tiny little idea on a piece of paper to a fully functional prototype. She was able to see the first draft of her Captain, but never had the chance to see the final amazing artwork done by Sam Turner, creating a likeness that will allow Captain Shan to sail forever.
So from me to all of you, thank you for helping make The Pirate’s Flag a game that will help to carry her memory long into the future. -Tucker
